Be Tough and Ride Out Life’s Toughest Temporary Challenges!

The quote “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” has been overused by trying-to-be-catchy pop songs, but the meaning of that quote holds much truth.

I’ve recently found out that my long-distance girlfriend isn’t able to visit me during the summer as we’ve previously planned. When you’ve been waiting 13 months for your girl to come back…it’s a hard pill to swallow to say the least.

I sat here as my brain tried to decide whether to wallow in bed, or to use my time wisely and be productive.

I’ve previously talked about Stephen Covey’s concepts of the Circle of Influence and the Circle of Concern, and it’s interesting to see it in action here. Especially in times like these when it’s important to stay in control of my emotions, as my brain struggles to figure out what the next approach is.

Facing all the challenges that I’ve faced has taught me to become more grounded, dynamic, and more accepting of the reality that I am presented instead of being stuck in a state of hopeless resistance. Dealing with stressful and difficult situations that take a mental toll on you makes you grow in terms of both tolerance and the ability to stay grounded, even in times when you are shaken by the world.

“What is the right approach to this situation? What are my alternatives?”

The more proactive you are, the more your mind will be thinking in terms of what you can control about a situation, instead of trying to control things that are out of your control.

So instead of wallowing in bed, I decided to start writing and turn this experience into digital content.
