Isn’t it our fault for eating in fast food restaurants if we’re trying to be healthy? Why is it that it’s the restaurant’s fault for not providing us with healthy food?
Self-aware human beings know that a fast food restaurant doesn’t typically provide healthy food, therefore it’s your responsibility to avoid them. If you want to live a long and prosperous life it’s your responsibility to eat healthy food and avoid shitty food.
Now, given that McDonalds is a multi-billion dollar fast-food chain that serves over three hundred million people on a daily basis, it is also their responsibility to provide us with healthy food. Yes, humans should be responsible for the food they put in their mouths, but it’s also McDonald’s responsibility to provide us with healthy food. Looking at their nutrition facts online, this is something that they are not doing. Just as a quick example, a “Chicken McNugget” meal has 1,500 milligrams of sodium. That’s one meal, and doesn’t include the fries. “The Dietary Guidelines for Americans” recommends to have a maximum sodium intake of 2,300 milligrams per-day. You shouldn’t even take in that much sodium if you’re trying to be healthy.
This brought me back to the idea of “nuanced truths”. It’s basically stating several different thoughts into one. On one hand, self-aware human beings should be responsible for the food they eat. If they want to eat healthy foods, they are responsible for keeping themselves away from fast food restaurants. At the same time, multi-billion dollar fast food chains that serve millions of people around the world should also be responsible to ensure the food that they serve is healthy.
Just a thought, or two.
